The first in a 2 part series on what to note for 2008.

1. Status Rewards—Consumers will be looking to gain even more personal status in various spheres: traditional, online, community, philanthropic, and environmental spaces.

2. Super Premiums—The food and beverage category will likely lead in this trend of "super-premium-ing" brands, but it will also be seen in travel, household consumables, and personal electronic categories.

3. More, Please—Instant gratification will continue to be a leading trend in 2008. Look for fast fashion, faster food, snack-able experiences, smarter cars, and more intuitive gadgetry.

4. YMI: You Made It!—From online content (videos, music, photos, blogs) to physical merchandise there will be an eruption of activity centered on things conceived, produced, distributed and sold by the consumer. Fashion, home furnishings and entertainment categories will be at the forefront.

Q: How can your product, service or company be re-engineered to capitalize on these and other emerging trends?

Let's talk about it.
